Sandy Koufax Pitching photograph

Date1964 August 16
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, Sandy Koufax captured striking out St. Louis Cardinals batter, Carl Warwick during the first game of a double header on August 16, 1964. Koufax is visible on the pitcher's mound and has released his pitch. His left arm is out in front of him and his feet are spaced wide apart. Warwick is visible in the batter's box after swinging and missing. An unidentified catcher and umpire are visible behind home plate. Koufax and the unidentified catcher are dressed in the Los Angeles Dodgers home uniforms, whereas Warwick is dressed in the St. Louis Cardinals road uniform. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the side of the front of the photograph and states, "Los Angeles: Sandy Koufax goes down in the record books again as Carl Warwick swings for strike three becoming victim number 10 and marking the 61st time Koufax has struck out 10 or more in a game. Koufax shutout the Cardinals 3-0 recording his 7th shutout of the season with 19 victories." A newspaper clipping is also affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "Another record: Carl Warwick fans swinging and Sandy Koufax of the Dodgers, for the 61st time, struck out 10 or more in a game. Matter of fact, he went on to whiff 13 and shutout Cardinals, 3-0." Based on the newspaper clippings this photograph was taken on August 16, 1964 during a double header between the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers won the first game 3-0, but lost the following game 0-4.
