Letter from Roxey Roach to Nelle Stewart
Date1910 July 03
DescriptionA 10-page letter with envelope (not shown) written by Roxey Roach to Nelle Stewart, July 3, 1910. It is handwritten on "The Majestic Hotel, Philadelphia, PA" letterhead. He writes to say he received her note around midnight. He writes that he was hit by a batted ball but he'll be fine. He writes that the owner, Frank Farrell, was there yesterday, and was asking George Stallings, manager, why he wasn't playing him (Roach) more. He writes that they wanted him to play yesterday, July 2, since Bender was pitching against them, and Frill was pitching for the Yankees, their worst, but he wasn't feeling well. He tells her when he's back in New York City, he will see Diamond Joe to buy her a ring, all the players buy from him. He tells her he wishes he could do their last Sunday visit over again, which is why we must enjoy each day. He signs it "Truly yours, Wilbur," his given name.
