DescriptionTwo black-and-white photographs of Philadelphia Athletics manager Connie Mack. In the image on the left, Mack is pictured with Athletic's pitcher Luman Harris. Mack is wearing catchers equipment. In the image on the right, Mack is pictured with Will Harridge. Haridge is presenting Mack with a plaque commemorating "Connie Mack Day." The caption below the images reads, "Philadelphia: Connie Mack, "Grand Old Man of Baseball," is dead and a nation of baseball fans, from President Eisenhower to the spectators who once cheered his champion Athletics, mourned his passing 2/9. Mack, 93, died 2/8 at his daughters home here. At left, Connie is shown in Chicago in 1944 as he marked his jubilee year as a manager. He's chatting with A's hurler Luman Harris. At right Mr. Baseball receives a plaque from AL proxy Will Harridge commemorating his 50 years as a pilot in the league. Scene took place in Yankee Stadium on "Connie Mack Day," According to the caption, these photographs were taken in 1944 and 1949. 1956 represents the publication date of this composite image, the date when these two previous photographs were assembled.
