Connie Mack (right), 87-year-old manager of the Philadelphia Athletics, gives instructions to pitcher Carl Scheib in the dressing room today before start of the A's opening game with the Washington Senators. This is Connie's fiftieth season as leader of his club. Scheib drew the starting mound assignment. His opponent will be Ray Scarborough, Washington's No. 1 hurler." According to the caption, this photograph was taken on April 18, 1950.
