Brooklyn Eagles Bacardi trophy

DescriptionThis metal trophy features a baseball player on top of fluted pillar with his arm extended over his head catching a baseball. The rectangular metal base of trophy has metal plate on face - engraved: "Trofeo / Bacardi / Puerto Rico." On top of the base is a small figurine of a man in a toga with a tall leaf and a plate engraved "Won By Brooklyn Eagles BBC 1936." There is green felt on the bottom of the base.

Bio/Historical NoteThe Bacardi Trophy was awarded to the Brooklyn Eagles for winning the 1935-36 Puerto Rico Winter League championship. The Eagles, also members of the Negro National League, were shifted to Newark in 1936 by Abe Manley, the team's owner.
