DescriptionSterling silver trophy bowl sitting atop three silver legs with a large silver baseball in the center between the legs. Baseball is engraved "Official / American League Ball" on the back side. This is mounted on top of a black metal tiered circular base. Front of the bowl has "From The Ball Players Of The / American League / To Show Their Appreciation Of / Cy Young / As A Man And As A Ball Player / August 13, 1908" in engraved lettering. Back side has "Denton T. Young / 1908" in embossed lettering with a depiction of an eagle standing on a baseball bat.

Bio/Historical NoteIn 1908, the Boston Red Sox celebrated Cy Young Day with an all-star game and a $6,000 cash prize for the legendary hurler. In addition, American League players commissioned this silver trophy "to show their appreciation of the man and ballplayer" who had already collected more than 450 of his eventual 511 victories.
