Idelson, left, stands with his right arm extended down by his side while holding Gwynn's uniform pants, that he wore when he earned his 3,000th hit, under his left arm. Idelson looks forward and down. Gwynn, center, facing the camera, holds a microphone in his right hand, chest height. While speaking, Gwynn looks down to the bat, that he used to break this record, that he holds in his left hand. In gripping the bat, Gwynn places his left hand on the barrel, holding it across his body, waist height. Petroskey, right, standing partially behind Gwynn, holds the cleats and helmet worn by Gwynn on this same day, in his left hand, waist height. Petroskey looks forward and down as well. Behind this group several people sitting in the infield are visible. An occupied stadium can also be seen in the distance. Based on the nature of this ceremony, this image was taken after August 6, 1999, the day Gwynn completed his 3,000th hit.
