Bob Feller Pitching photograph

Date1939 July 11
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Bob Feller pitching during the 1939 All-Star game. Feller's body indicates that he about to release the baseball during his pitch: his right plant leg is stretched across the mound barely touching the rubber while the majority of his weight and momentum has transferred to his left stepping leg that is bent at almost ninety degrees ready to unleash a torrent of momentum towards the catcher. Feller's holding the baseball in his right hand in a slight blur indicating motion with its position behind him, but quickly coming forward, while his left glove arm is just above his left knee. Although there are no discerning features, the label on the back indicates that this was played in New York City's Yankee Stadium (in the Bronx). It reads 'FELLER TURNS ON THE HEAT. BOB FELLER. THE CLEVELAND FIRE BALL HURLER, IS SHOWN TURNING ON THE HEAT AS HE RELIEVED DETROIT'S TOMY [Tony] BRIDGES IN THE SIXTH INNING OF THE ALL-STAR GAME IN NEW YORK, JULY 11. ARTER (SIC) FELLER TOOK THE MOUND THE NATIONAL LEAGUERS DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE. AMERICANS WON, 3-1.""
