DescriptionA black-and-white portrait photograph of Virginia Winther, Bob Feller's fiancee. Shown from the chest up Winther faces the camera making direct eye contact. Based on the posed nature of the photograph it was taken in a professional studio. Pasted on the reverse is a caption (not shown), typed in purple ink, that reads, "BOB FELLER'S FIANCEE - CHICAGO, ILL.-- The engagement of Miss Virginia Winther, 24, of Waukegan, Ill. to Bob Feller has been announced. Feller, formerly a star pitcher of the Cleveland Indians, is now a chief specialist in the Navy. The wedding date has not been set." Stamped on the reverse in purple ink is "LAST TIME USED DEC 1 1942," a possible publication date of the photo.
