DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Bob Feller wearing a tuxedo with his wife Virginia in an evening gown. Feller, shown from the knees up, poses for a photograph arm in arm with his wife. Both smile and look at a point to the right of the camera. In his left hand Feller carries Virginia's clutch bag. There is a large crowd circulating in the background. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in black ink, is a caption that reads, "BASEBALL AND OPERA Bob Feller, former star pitcher for Cleveland Indians, and his wife arrive for opening of 75th season at Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, Oct. 26. roc 1023pes 10/26/59 str rh 24." Stamped on the reverse (not shown) in red ink is the date "OCT 27 1959," the probable publication date of this photo. An additional caption (also not shown) reads, "Diamond Star Sees Stars--Bob Feller, former start of the Cleveland Indians, and his wife arrive for the gala opera opening."
