DescriptionA black-and-white 3/4 length photograph of Jimmie Foxx lying in a hospital bed, reading a newspaper. Foxx, laying on his back, partially under the covers, wears a white 3/4 length shirt. Laying flat, Foxx holds the newspaper with both hands, resting his hands against his stomach. Foxx looks forward and down while reading. Visible in the background of the photograph, adjacent to his bed, is a lamp and radiator. A caption above the photograph (not shown), typed in black ink, reads, "HXPC-090305-9/3/59-GALESBURG,ILL-Jimmy Foxx,51,a member of baseball's Hall of Fame, shown resting in St. Mary's hospital here 9/2 while recovering from what his physician described as fatigue.The former American league star had been working hard preparing for the opening of the Jimmy Foxx restaurant here, which he will manage." Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in red ink, is the date, "SEP 9 - 1959." On the other copy of this photograph, a caption pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in purple ink, reads, "RESTING IN HOSPITAL GALESBURG, ILL." JIMMY FOXX, 51, A MEMBER OF BASEBALL'S HALL OF FAME, READS A NEWSPAPER AS HE RESTS IN BED IN ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL HERE, SEPT. 2ND. FOXX WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER HE COLLAPSED, SUFFERING FROM WHAT HIS DOCTOR DESCRIBED AS "FATIGUE." THE FORMER AMERICAN LEAGUE SLUGGER HAS BEEN WORKING HARD PREPARING FOR THE OPENING OF THE JIMMY FOXX RESTAURANT, WHICH HE WILL MANAGE. 9/3/59."
