Jimmie Foxx Holding Gun photograph

Date1938 November 02
DescriptionA black-and-white half-length posed photograph of Jimmie Foxx holding a double-barrel rifle. Shown from the waist up, Foxx is depicted in 3/4 profile. Standing with his left shoulder angled slightly away from the camera, Foxx wears dress pants, a coat and a cowboy hat. With his left hand behind his back, Foxx holds the gun in his right hand, resting the weapon underneath his right arm and against his right side. Looking towards the camera smiling, Foxx directs his gaze to a point above and to the left of the camera. Posed for the photograph, Foxx stands in front of a door. Based on the flat lighting of the photograph this image was captured indoors. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in black ink, is a caption that reads, "HUNTING FOXX BAGS LEAGUE AWARD JIMMY FOXX, FIRST SACKER OF THE BOSTON RED SOX, IS SHOWN NOV. 2, APPARENTLY WELL SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS OF A HUNTING TRIP AS HE RETURNED TO HIS HOME IN PHILADELPHIA. HE HAS JUST BEEN CHOSEN 1938 WINNER OF THE AMERICAN LEAGUE'S MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD. GOOD HUNTING, IT SEEMS, ON DIAMOND AND OFF. 11-3-38PX." Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in red and black ink respectively, are the phrases, "RECEIVED NOV 3 1938," and "LAST TIME USED MAY 11 1940 EDITION 2."
