DescriptionA black-and-white 3/4 length photograph of Jimmie Foxx using a sledgehammer. Shown in profile, shirtless, Foxx looks forward and down, directing his gaze to the end of the sledgehammer. Placing his right hand over left on the handle of the sledgehammer, Foxx extends his arms straight, holding it chest height. Captured at a construction site, visible in the background is a ladder and the unframed wall that Foxx is working on. A caption above the photograph (not shown), typed in black ink, reads, "GALESBURG, ILL:Jimmy Foxx,51,baseball hall of fame star who has had tough going in his later years, is shown tearing out wall during remodeling job of restaurant he will manage here.Three Galesburg restaurant men disclosed they have signed Foxx to manage a charcoal steak house to be called the Jimmy Foxx restaurant.Foxx had a major lifetime batting mark of .325, slamming 534 home runs in career which extended from 1925 through 1945." Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in red ink, is the date, "JUN 1-1959."
