DescriptionA black-and-white full-length photograph of Tris Speaker at bat. Speaker, facing the camera, wears a Boston Red Sox uniform. Holding the bat waist height, along his left side, Speaker places his left hand over his right on the grip of the bat. Speaker looks over his right shoulder, in the direction of the oncoming ball. An occupied stadium is visible in the background. Portions of Speaker's uniform have been modified to appear more legible upon publication. Based on the specific design of the jersey worn by Speaker, this image was captured in 1907, Speaker's first year with Boston, or during the 1909 or 1910 season, the final two years that Boston wore jerseys with laces. During the 1908 season Boston wore jerseys that featured their stocking logo, rather than team name.
