A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "The 'Old Fox' Of Philadelphia.-Phila., Pa. ---Connie Mack displays one of his rare smile after the Philadelphia 'Athletics' had clinched the 1931 pennant of the American League. This is the ninth time that the 'A's' managed by the veteran Mack have landed at the top after a season of play.9/16/31." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on September 16, 1931.
