Letter from Ty Cobb to Alexander Cleland

DescriptionA two-page handwritten letter from Ty Cobb to Alexander Cleland, August 18, 1938. The top of the first page reads "Tyrus R. Cobb, Box 394 D, Menlo Park, California." He writes to tell Cleland that he had not been ignoring this request or was ungrateful. He is honored to have been voted the #1 ballplayer. He felt like he had nothing fitting to place in the museum except an old bat, shoes, and sliding pads. He tells Cleland that if he thinks these items will be suitable, he will send them along. He is hoping for an official opening of the museum so he could attend. It is signed "Ty Cobb." The versos (not shown) are blank.
