Tris Speaker Taking Batting Practice photograph

Datebetween 1916 and 1926
DescriptionA black-and-white full-length photograph of Tris Speaker batting. Wearing a Cleveland Indians uniform, Speaker looks forward and in the distance, to a point to the right of the camera. Standing with feet apart, Speaker supports the majority of his weight on his back left leg. In gripping the bat, Speaker places his left hand over his right, holding the bat waist height on the right side of his body. Evident by the backstop screen visible behind Speaker, this image was captured during batting practice. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Speaker, this image was captured between 1916, his first year with Cleveland, and 1926, his final year with the team. Speaker is depicted wearing either an alternate or spring training uniform.
