Sandy Koufax Pitching photograph

Date1963 July 16
DescriptionA black-and-white sequence photographs of Sandy Koufax, of the Los Angeles Dodgers pitching during game 1 of a double header against the Philadelphia Phillies at Connie Mack Stadium, also known as Shibe Park stadium. In the first frame, Koufax is captured with his right leg lifted up high as his left hand is reaching into his baseball mitt for the ball. In the second frame Koufax is bringing down his leg and his left arm is behind him with the baseball in hand. In the third frame Koufax has a strained expression on his face and the baseball is visible in the air as it has just left his hand. Koufax is dressed in the Los Angeles Dodgers road uniform. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the front of the photograph and states, "Sandy Koufax, Los Angeles Dodgers southpaw, working on the mound at Philadelphia's Connie Mack Stadium to beat the Phillies 5-2 for his sixteenth win of the season. Sandy gave up his first run in the 7th inning to end his streak of 34 runless inning. Koufax struck out seven to boost his league leading strikeout to 170. He has three losses for the season." Based on the newspaper clipping these photographs were taken on July 16, 1963 when the Dodgers beat the Phillies 5-2 in game one of the double header, but loss the second game 2-10.
