DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Sandy Koufax captured with his head bent low while he announced his retirement from baseball and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Koufax is dressed in a suit and has a small smile on his face. Koufax retired early after only 12 seasons in the Major League to avoid any further damage to his left elbow that already had a arthritic condition. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "Baseball's best pitcher, the Dodgers' Sandy Koufax, as he announced in Beverly Hills his retirement. He said he feared permanent injury to his arthritic left elbow." This photograph was taken on November 18, 1966.
