Ted Williams Autographed bat

Date1951 September 14
DescriptionNatural stain wooden bat, 30.5 ounces, with "Louisville Slugger 125 / Powerized Reg U.S. Pat Off" logo in the center of the barrel and "Genuine / Ted Williams / Louisville Slugger" lettering near the end of the barrel. "W166" is inscribed on the end of the knob. Bat is autographed by Satchel Paige on the underside of the barrel and also signed "St. Louis Browns vs. Boston Red Sox / Sept. 1951" to the left of Paige's signature.
Bio/Historical NoteBat used by Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox in a game against the St. Louis Browns at Fenway Park on September 14, 1951. With Boston ahead 9-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Williams faced Browns reliever Satchel Paige. Paige struck Williams out with a third-strike change-up that so angered the Red Sox slugger that he banged the bat on the railing near the Red Sox dugout, damaging the handle of the bat. In his career, Williams had 11 plate appearances against Paige, going 2-for-9 (.222) with two walks. This was the only at-bat in which Williams struck out against the former Negro leagues star.
