Tony Gwynn Batting slide
Date1985 or 1986
DescriptionA full-length action color image of Tony Gwynn batting. Gwynn, shown in 3/4 profile, wears a San Diego Padres home uniform, helmet, and batting gloves. Exiting his follow through position, Gwynn supports his weight between his straight, front right leg, and his bent, back left leg. Following the momentum of his swing, Gwynn rotates his upper body to his right. Gwynn holds his right hand behind his back, while his left hand, that holds the bat, rests in front of his body. Gwynn looks forward, to a point in the distance and to the right of the camera. The occupied stadium in the background indicates that this image was captured in-game. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Gwynn, a pinstripe road uniform, with an 'RAK' patch on the left sleeve, this image was taken during 1985 or 1986, the only two years that San Diego wore both pinstripe uniforms and these commemorative patches to honor their former team owner Ray Kroc.
