Tony Gwynn Running slide
Date1985 or 1986
DescriptionA full-length action color image of Tony Gwynn running to first. Gwynn, shown in profile, wears a San Diego Padres home uniform, batting gloves, and helmet. Captured mid-step, having just made contact with the ball, Gwynn supports his weight between his bent, front right leg, and his straight, back left leg. Only the toe of Gwynn's left and right cleat touch the ground. Leaning forward, Gwynn looks forward and down. Extending his straight left arm out to his side, waist height, Gwynn holds his right arm, that is bent at the elbow, along his right side, waist height. Gripping the bat with his right hand, Gwynn holds the bat perpendicular to the ground. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Gwynn, and the commemorative patch that reads 'RAK,' this image was captured during the 1985 or 1986 season, the only two years that San Diego wore both pinstripe uniforms and this patch. The \RAK\ patch visible on the left sleeve of Gwynn's jersey was worn by the Padres from 1984-1986, to honor to their former team owner, Ray Kroc. Captured in-game, an occupied stadium and dugout can be seen in the background.
