Charlie Gehringer Sliding photograph

Date1933 July 06
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Charlie Gehringer captured sliding safely into third base during the 1933 All-Star baseball game in which the AL All-Stars won 5 to 3. The game was held at Comiskey Park. Gehringer is looking up at third baseman Pie Traynor. Traynor is leaning down tagging Gehringer on the leg as umpire, Cy Rigler, declares Gehringer safe. An unidentified baseball player is visible on the sidelines of the baseball field. Gehringer is dressed in the Detroit Tigers road uniform. Traynor is dressed in the Pittsburgh Pirates uniform but it is indistinguishable if it is a home or road uniform. The caption written on the back of the photograph states, "1933: All Star slides safely into 3rd base." Based on the caption this photograph was taken on July 6, 1933.
