Babe Ruth Davega trophy

Date1921
DescriptionSilver, gold-toned and painted wood (base) trophy. The base is painted black wood with raised silver columns and small plaques alternating on the base. The silver three-tiered platform holds three crossed bats. The ends of the bats cradle the silver cup, which is not decorated except for the following text, "DAVEGA / TROPHY / PRESENTED TO / "BABE RUTH" / BY THE / AMATEURS OF THE / N.Y. BASEBALL / FEDERATION." The two decorative handles have a hollow opening at the top which appear to have catcher's masks as a "support" for the handle. Silver lid of trophy has two tiers - the top tier has a silvery baseball; a burnished figure of a running baseball player stands atop the silver baseball.
Bio/Historical NoteSilver and gold-tone Davega Trophy awarded to Babe Ruth by the Amateurs of Baseball Federation on June 24, 1921. George Herman "Babe" Ruth played for the Boston Red Sox (1914-1919), New York Yankees (1920-1934), and Boston Braves (1935). He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 as one of the "First Five" members.
