DescriptionMedal with a rectangular placard at the top with a backing pin. "Prize Medal / to the / Mutual B.B. Club." is engraved on this placard. Connected to the placard with a ring is a dangling circular piece in the shape of a belt with a buckle at the bottom center and two crossed bats in the open center portion. "From The Orphans of St. Vincent's Asylum, Troy N.Y." is engraved around the perimeter of the belt.
Bio/Historical NoteMedal given to John Wildey, president of the Mutual Base Ball Club of New York City, for their participation in a benefit game for an orphanage in Troy, NY, on October 10, 1870. The Atlantic BBC of Brooklyn beat the Mutuals, 8-4. St. Vincent's was a female orphan asylum. Wildey, once the coroner of New York City, was for a time the president of the National Association of Base Ball Players.
