DescriptionSilver tri-handled trophy cup with a flared base and an inscription on the front, "To / Lou Gehrig / With Love and Best Wishes / From / The Employees / Of / The Yankee Baseball Club / July 4, 1939." Underside of base has three stamps, including "Sterling," "1237B," and "925/1000" Fine."
Bio/Historical NoteOn July 4, 1939, the Yankees held Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day to honor the first baseman whose marvelous career ended so tragically. Among the many gifts Gehrig received was this tri-handled silver cup, given "with love and best wishes" by the Yankees' front office employees.
