DescriptionA black-and-white. chest length photograph of George Sisler captured holding up a baseball trophy. Sisler has a straight face and is dressed in a suit. The trophy features a batter and a catcher. A caption on the front of the photograph (not shown) states, "One of baseball's great first basemen during his playing days with the St. Louis Browns, George Sisler (above) is still active in the game at which he won fame. Sisler, who holds a bronze statuette of Ray Schalk catching and himself batting, is now a scout for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Commissioner of the National (semi-pro) Baseball Congress." A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (also not shown) states, "George Sisler (above), Brooklyn Dodgers scout and and commissioner of the National (semi-pro) Baseball Congress, believes that the future of baseball is safe in the hands of the youngsters today. Sisler, one of the all-time great first basemen when he played with the St. Louis Browns, holds a bronze statuette of Ray Schalk catching and himself batting. 2/10.44" Based on the newspaper captions this photograph was taken on February 10, 1944.
