DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of George Sisler captured holding his newborn granddaughter, Sharon Lee Sisler. Sisler has a large grin on his face as he looks down at the sleeping baby in his arms. A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "George Sisler, one of baseball's greatest first basemen and now a scout for the Brooklyn Dodgers, assumes the role of grandfather as he cuddles his first granddaughter Sharon Lee Sisler, at a hospital in Asheville after her birth. Sharon Lee is the first born child of St. Louis Cardinal player Dick Sisler. Mother is doing fine." Another newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (also not shown) states, "George Sisler, one of baseball's greatest first basemen of all time, and now a scout for the Brooklyn Dodgers, assumes a new role as he cuddles his first granddaughter, Sharon Lee, at the Baltimore hospital here. Sharon Lee is the first born of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Sisler. Her father is now with the St. Louis Cardinals, who are now leading the National League, just a few games of her grandpop's club, the Dodgers. 9/11/46" Based on the newspaper captions this photograph was taken on September 11, 1946.
