Mack has a large smile on his face as he receives a plaque for his dedication to baseball as an American League manager for fifty years on August 21, 1949. Handing the plaque to Mack is Will Harridge. Webb stands back as he watches the presentation. All three gentlemen are dressed in suits. The plaque features a section shaped like a baseball with engraved text. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) (not shown) and states, "Connie Mack Presented with Plaque Will Harridge (left), president of the American League, presents a plaque to 86-year-old Connie Mack for his 50 years as an American League manager, during ceremonies honoring the veteran Philadelphia pilot at Yankee Stadium, New York, Aug. 21. In making the presentation, Harridge told Mack, baseball's lovable elder statesman, 'This is a special day for you, in a long and wonderful career.' Looking on (center) is Del Webb, vice president of the Yankees. Ceremony preceded the Yanks-Athletics game, with the A's making it a big day for Connie with an 8-7 victory." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on August 21, 1949.
