DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Connie Mack lined up with past and present players from the Philadelphia Athletics at the dugout. Beginning on the left to right are, Mack, Charles Bender, Jimmy Dykes, Wally Moses, Sam Chapman and Arnie Portocarrero. Mack has a large smile on his face as he looks down the row of players. The other gentlemen are dressed in the Philadelphia Athletics uniforms and look towards Mack. Baseball bats line the ground in front. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) (not shown) and states, "A's Through The Ages West Palm Beach, Fla.: These six Philadelphia Athletics date their playing days with the A's from the beginning of the century. From left to right are: Connie Mack, 89, who started in 1901; Chief Bender, 67, who started in 1903; Jimmy Dykes, 54, a 1916 starter; Wally Moses, 41, who started in 1935; Sam Chapman, 34, a 1940 starter; and the baby of the group, Arnold Portocarrero, 19, who started in 1950. 3/7/51" Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on March 7, 1951.
