Sandy Koufax Acting Debut photograph
Date1959 November 10
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax. Koufax is dressed as a cowboy for his acting debut in "Colt .45." Koufax is holding a gun and has his right leg propped up on a rock. He is smiling at the camera. The caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "Pitcher ready for acting debut. Hollywood: Sandy Koufax, pitcher for the World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers, is dressed for his acting debut in "Colt .45." In his part in the television western, Sandy will last about as long as he does when yanked in the first inning of a losing ball game. He dies in the first scene. But the handsome ball player thinks it's a good start. "If there's a career for me in acting, fine. I want to go as far as my capabilities will carry me," he said. "At 23 I've got to think about what I'm going to do after leaving baseball." According to the caption on the reverse, this photograph was taken on November 10, 1959.
