DescriptionA black-and-white, head and shoulder, photograph of Sandy Koufax, Los Angeles Dodgers left handed pitcher, captured as he winds up for his pitch with a serious expression on his face prior to game against the New York Mets on August 10, 1965. During this game, Koufax collected his 20th win of the season in a 4-3 game.Koufax has his left arm behind him and the baseball is visible in his hand behind his head. He is dressed in the Los Angeles Dodgers home uniform. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "Dodger pitcher, Sandy Koufax bears down hard as he warms up before the game here August 10 in which he became the first major league pitcher to win 20 games this year, by beating the New Mets, 4-3. He also struck out 14 batters--the 15th time he has gotten 10 or more this year." A second newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "The Dodgers' Sandy Koufax, who struck out 14 Mets Tuesday night on the way...his 20th victory." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on August 10, 1965.
