Ty Cobb Honey Boy Evans trophy

DescriptionSterling silver and bronze trophy with a rectangular base featuring ornate garland detailing. Embossed lettering around the perimeter of the base reads 'George "Honey Boy" Evans Champion Batsman Trophy / 1912.' There is an eagle perched atop a baseball with crossed bats in the background affixed to the front bottom center of the base. The front of the base features an engraved depiction of a game in progress. Above the eagle is a protruding silver placard with "Won By / Ty Cobb / Detroit American / League / Percentage .410" in embossed lettering. Left side of the base has an engraving of a child playing a horn while the right side of the base has an engraving of a child holding masks. Back side of the base is blank with "Dieges & Clust N.Y." stamped at the lower left corner. Mounted on top of the base are three bronze figures in various stances. There is a pitcher, batter, and a catcher.
Bio/Historical NoteEach year from 1908 to 1912, entertainer George "Honey Boy" Evans commissioned and presented a one-of-a-kind trophy to the major leaguer with the highest batting average. Ty Cobb captured four straight trophies, including this highly decorated example from 1912, after which Evans retired the award.
