DescriptionA black-and-white full-length action photograph of Burleigh Grimes pitching. Grimes, shown in 3/4 profile, wears a St. Louis Cardinals uniform. Having just thrown the ball, Grimes supports his weight between his bent, front left leg and his straight, back right leg. Only the toe of his right cleat touches the ground. Leaning forward, looking to his right, Grimes directs his gaze to a point in the distance and to the left of the camera. Standing with both arms down by his sides, Grimes wears a glove on his left hand. The background of the photograph is not original and has been painted white. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Grimes, this image was taken during 1930, his first year with the team, 1931, or 1934. Throughout these three years St. Louis wore socks with five stripes, two large and three small.
