Grimes, left, shown from the knees up, wears a Brooklyn Dodgers road uniform. Depicted in 3/4 profile, angling his body towards McCarthy, Grimes shakes McCarthy's right hand with his right hand. Smiling, Grimes looks forward to McCarthy, establishing eye contact. McCarthy, right, also shown from the knees up, wears a New York Yankees road uniform. Adopting a similar pose, McCarthy shakes Grimes' hand while smiling, making eye contact. McCarthy stands with his left hand in the back pocket of his uniform pants. Captured on the field, an unoccupied stadium can be seen in the background. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Grimes, this image was taken in 1938, the first year the Dodgers wore jerseys with their team name underlined.
