DescriptionA black-and-white full-length posed photograph of Burleigh Grimes pitching. Grimes, shown in profile, wears a Brooklyn Robins uniform. Having just thrown the ball, Grimes supports his weight between his bent, front left leg and his straight, back right leg. Only the toe of his right cleat touches the ground. Leaning forward, Grimes extends his right arm in front of his body waist height. Grimes looks forward to a point in the distance and to the right of the camera. Captured on the field, several other players and a portion of the stadium can be seen in the background. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Grimes, this image was taken between 1918, his first year with the team, and 1923, the final year, during which Grimes played, that Brooklyn wore solid colored socks.
