DescriptionA black-and-white half-length photograph of Jimmie Foxx standing behind a cash register. Foxx, facing the camera, wears dress pants and a short sleeve dress shirt. Standing behind the register, Foxx rests his right arm on the counter in front of him. Smiling, Foxx directs his gaze to a point in the distance and to the right of the camera. A caption pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in purple ink, reads, "SOX SLUGGER IS WINTER-TIME BUSINESSMAN ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. . .LOOKING HAPPY AS HE STANDS IN FRONT OF THE CASH REGISTER, IS JIMMY FOXX, SLUGGING FIRST BASEMAN OF THE BOSTON RED SOX, WHO WAS PICTURED IN HIS ROLE OF WINTER-TIME BIG BUSINESSMAN. IN THE OFF-SEASON, JIMMY BOSSES TWO GOLF COURSES IN ST. PETERSBURG AND ENJOYS PLAYING THE SWEETEST OF ALL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, THE CASH REGISTER. R-12-2636-12/30." Based on the included caption, this image was captured between 1936 and 1942, the span of Foxx's career with Boston.
