Tony Gwynn Batting slide
Date1985 July
DescriptionA full-length action color image of Tony Gwynn batting. Shown in 3/4 profile, Gwynn wears a San Diego Padres home uniform, batting gloves, and helmet. Having just made contact with the ball, about to run to first, Gwynn is captured mid-step. Supporting his weight on his straight, back left leg, Gwynn's bent, front right leg is lifted slightly off the ground. Holding his left arm, that is bent at the elbow, chest height across his body, Gwynn extends his right arm back behind his body. Gwynn grips the bat with his right hand, holding it waist height on his right side. Gwynn looks forward, directing his gaze to a point to the left of the camera. A commemorative patch that reads 'RAK,' visible on the left sleeve of Gwynn's jersey, was worn by San Diego from 1984 until 1986, in honor of their former team owner, Ray Kroc. Captured in-game, an occupied stadium and dugout can be seen in the background. The creation date of this image was provided by the donor.
