DescriptionA black-and-white 3/4 length portrait photograph of Burleigh Grimes. Grimes, shown from the knees up, depicted in 3/4 profile, wears dress pants, a dress shirt, and tie. Seated in the grandstand of Ebbets Field, Grimes leans forward to rest both elbows on each knee. With his right hand clasped about his left wrist, smoking a pipe, Grimes looks forward to a point in the distance and to the right of the camera. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), a caption, typed in black ink, reads, "GRIMES LOOKS ON FROM THE SIDELINES New York, July 17--Temporarily SUSPENDED AFTER AN ALTERCATION WITH AN UMPIRE, BURLEIGH GRIMES, MANAGER OF THE CHICAGO CUBS, WATCHED TODAY'S GAME BETWEEN HIS CLUB AND THE BROOKLYN DODGERS FROM A BOX IN THE GRAND-STAND. HE SAW THE CUBS WIN BY A SCORE OF 3 TO 7. 7/17/37." Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in black ink, is the phrase, "LAST TIME USED JUL 19 1937 EDITION - 5."
