Dateundated
DescriptionPair of light colored fingerless leather gloves with padding sewn into the upper parts of the palm, fingers, and thumb. Finger stalls do not extend past the first joint. Back sides of the gloves have wrist straps with buttonholes. There are no manufacturer labels or distinguishing markings.
Bio/Historical NoteThe first baseball gloves were fingerless, and initially used by catchers in the late 1860s. These early gloves were simple with the fingertips cut off, supposedly to allow for flexibility but with extra padding to cushion the wearer from the impact of the baseball.
