Date1936 August 12
DescriptionCircular bronze medal with an image of a raised figure on the front with linear designs to the left and right, "XI Olympiade" and "Berlin 1936" in raised lettering. Reverse side has an image of a bell with an eagle holding the Olympic rings and raised lettering along the bottom rim, in German, "I call the youth of the world." The name of the medal designer is on the reverse as well, "Otto Placzek", in raised lettering along the side.
Bio/Historical NoteThis Olympic participation medal (technically known that year as a commemoration medal) was given to those who participated in the special exhibition of baseball at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. The medal was issued to each member of the United States baseball team on August 12, 1936. The medal is not to be confused with an actual Olympic sport medal, as the baseball game played at the 1936 Games was merely an exhibition.
