DescriptionSterling silver tri-handled cup with "Presented to Hugh Duffy / Manager of the / Milwaukee B.B. Club / from his Boston Friends / June 7, 1901" inscribed on the front. There are three curved handles protruding from the body of the cup, two in the front on either side of the inscription and one in the back. Base is scalloped with a decorative design. Top rim edge is wavy. Underside has "Smith Patterson & Co. / Sterling 95/100 / Boston" stamped as well as "Sterling" and "3504 / 5 1/2 PTS."
Bio/Historical NoteOn June 7, 1901, in his debut season as the player/manager of the American League's Milwaukee Brewers, Hugh Duffy played his first game back in Boston after having played for that city the previous ten seasons. In appreciation for his long tenure in Beantown, local fans presented the future Hall of Famer with this silver loving cup.
