Tris Speaker Resting photograph

Date1927
DescriptionA black-and-white full-length photograph of Tris Speaker resting on two baseball bats. Shown wearing a Washington Senators uniform, Speaker turns his head slightly to the right, towards the camera. Seen in profile, crouched in a catcher's position, Speaker supports his weight on two bats. Speaker, in this position, sits on the two bats that are held by his clasped hands while comfortably resting his elbows on each corresponding knee. Due to the included background it appears as if photograph was captured on a baseball field. The immediate foreground as well as the background are out of focus, creating a spotlight effect within the image itself that further highlights the subject. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Speaker, one that features a patriotic shield on the left sleeve of his jersey, and his career with Washington, this image was captured in 1927. In comparison with other images taken during this period, Speaker most likely wears a Spring training uniform.
