Tris Speaker with Native Americans photograph

Datebetween 1916 and 1926
DescriptionA black-and-white full-length posed photograph of Tris Speaker standing in front of a tipi, holding hands with two Native American men. Speaker (center), facing the camera, wears a Cleveland Indians alternate or Spring training uniform and boots. Looking forward, smiling, Speaker establishes eye contact with the camera. Standing with feet apart and both arms raised waist height, Speaker, in his left hand, holds the right hand of the man to his left, and in his right hand, holds the left hand of the man to his right. Shown in profile, both Native American men stand on either side of Speaker. Depicted in traditional folk costume, each man wears a war bonnet, tunic, leggings, and moccasins. Both men look forward, establishing eye contact with one another. All three stand in front of a tipi, posed for the photograph. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Speaker, this image was captured between 1916 and 1926, the duration of Speaker's career with Cleveland.
