DescriptionA black-and-white 3/4 length posed photograph of Tris Speaker reclined on a couch, relaxing. Facing the camera, shown from the knees up, Speaker wears a patterned bathrobe. Laying on his side, with head raised, Speaker holds an open copy of "Outdoor Life" magazine with both hands. Taken out of doors, a walkway and various plants can be seen in the background. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in purple ink, is a caption that reads, "CLEVELAND, O.--TRIS SPEAKER, WINNER OF ANOTHER INSPIRING FIGHT FOR LIFE, IS SHOWN ABOVE AT HOME AFTER RECOVERING FROM A MAJOR OPERATION AT LAKESIDE HOSPITAL. WHEN PICTURE WAS BEING MADE, TRIS SAID-I'M NOT SURE IF I CAN PLAY NINE INNINGS TODAY. HE WILL (...) REMAIN AT HOME FOR AT LEAST TWO MORE WEEKS. 7/31/42." Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in black ink, is the phrase, "RECEIVED AUG 1-1942."
