Tris Speaker Fielding photograph

Date1918
DescriptionA black-and-white full-length posed photograph of Tris Speaker fielding. Speaker, facing the camera, wears a Cleveland Indians road uniform. Standing on his right leg, Speaker extends his bent left leg behind his body, knee height. Leaning forward and to his right, Speaker extends both arms in front of his body chest height. Wearing a glove on his right hand, Speaker looks forward, directing his gaze to a point in the distance and to the left of the camera. Captured on the field, a stadium can be seen in the background. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Speaker, this image was captured in 1918, the sole year Cleveland wore American flag patches on the left sleeve of their jerseys, to honor those who fought in the First World War.
