Nap Lajoie Playing Shuffleboard photograph

Dateprobably 1929
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Napoleon "Nap" Lajoie playing shuffleboard. Lajoie holds a cue-stick in his right hand in front of him presumably at the tail end of him shooting a disc. Lajoie's body position indicates that this is the end of his shot. His right leg is slightly behind him while the majority of his weight is on his left-front leg. Lajoie wears a dark suit with thin, faint light-colored stripes, a white dress shirt, dark dress shoes, a dark tie with light-colored polka-dots, and a gray cabbie hat. On the reverse, there is a caption (not shown) that states, "KING OF SECOND BASEMEN BRINGS SEA-GOING GAME TO LAND ST. PETERSBURG, FL.....NAPOLEON LAJOIE, FORMER NATIONAL IDOL OF THE CLEVELAND BASEBALL CLUB, AND CROWNED AS CHAMPION KEYSTONE SACKER FOR ALL TIME, TAKES UP A LESS STRENUOUS BUT EQUALLY SKILLFUL GAME HERE. 'NAP' HAS BECOME ONE OF THE SHUFFLEBOARD STARS OF THE COMMUNITY AND IS RECEIVING CREDIT FOR HELPING TO INTRODUCE THE FORMER STRICTLY TRANS-ATLANTIC DECK GAME TO LANDLUBBERS. IT IS SAID THOUSANDS OF POTENTIAL SHUFFLEBOARD FANS WERE KEPT AWAY FROM THE GAME BY THE THOUGHT OF HAVING TO PLAY IT ON THE BRINY DEEP PS-12-26-29"
