Nap Lajoie, Cy Young, and Bill Carrigan photograph
Datebetween 1916 and 1922
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Napoleon "Nap" Lajoie posing with players Bill Carrigan on the left and Cy Young on the right. Lajoie stands between Carrigan and Young with his back straight, feet shoulder-width apart, and his arms resting at his side. Lajoie's face features a meek smile and he stares at the photographer. Lajoie wears a home Cleveland Naps uniform from 1902 or 1903. Carrigan wears a home Boston Red Sox uniform between the 1912 and 1916 seasons and Young wears an unidentified team uniform. Carrigan stares at the photographer and dons a catcher's mitt on his right hand while Young looks to the left side and holds onto his pitchers glove in his left hand. All three players stand on the field grass behind home plate. In the background is a backstop with a wire mesh above the wall with spectators filling the seats. The location of this photograph is unidentified. Because of the disparities in the uniform eras and the caption on the reverse that states, "FILED SEP 14 1922", it may be assumed that this photograph was taken after the last of these players retired in 1916 and are at a players reunion.
