Bing Miller and Bobby Shantz photograph

Date1952 August 30
DescriptionA black-and-white half-length photograph of Bing Miller with Bobby Shantz. Miller, left, shown from the waist up, wears a Philadelphia Athletics uniform. Depicted in 3/4 profile, with his left shoulder angled slightly away from the camera, Miller looks forward and down, to the binoculars that he holds in his right hand. Holding the binocular case in his left hand, resting a box under his left arm and against his side, Miller holds onto the right side of the field glasses with his right hand. Shantz, right, holds onto the left side of the glasses with his left hand. Angled inwards towards Miller, Shantz, shown from the waist up, wears a warm-up jacket and ball cap. A caption below the photograph (not shown), typed in black ink, reads, "8/30/52 Phila-A's coach Bing Miller, (L), holds a pair of field glasses presented him by Bobby Shantz on behalf of the A's players as a birthday gift. Little Bobby received a letter threatening him if he was seen in Boston's Fenway Park. . . . . . ." Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in black ink, is the date, "SEP 15 1952."
