DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Sandy Koufax, left, and Don Drysdale, right, walking on the baseball field at Dodger Stadium the day prior to the start of game one in the World Series where the Los Angeles Dodgers faced the Baltimore Orioles. Both Koufax and Drysdale have serious expressions on their faces. They are dressed in the Los Angeles Dodgers home uniform. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph states, "Don Drysdale, his pitching partner, in the photo at left, will now have to carry the Dodgers' pitching load." A newspaper clipping is affixed to the front of the photograph and states, "When the Los Angeles Dodgers square off today against the Baltimore Orioles in the opening game of the World Series, hopes for a second straight championship will rest on the ability of their pitching staff, headed by Sandy Koufax, left, and Don Drysdale, pictured as they walked onto Dodger Stadium infield yesterday. Drysdale will start today's game and Koufax's tomorrow's." The Dodgers went on to lose the 1966 World Series when the Orioles swept them in four games. Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on October 4, 1966.
